good is the new cool

Like most of us, we’ve entered 2019 with a fresh appetite for learning (as well as vegan sausage rolls). We’ve rounded up our top reads of 2019 – prepare for inspiring stories of building ethical businesses, tricks and tips to do good, positivity and a healthy dose of stories of resilience.

Let my people go surfing

Legendary Yvon Chouinard- climber, businessman, environmentalist, and founder of Patagonia, Inc shares the persistence and courage that have gone into being head of one of the most respected and environmentally responsible companies on earth. We think every business can learn from Yvon, failure is good, sticking to your values in the face of adversity even better!

Start with why

Simon Sinek helps us realise if you don’t know the ‘why’ for your own life, your business and beyond then it’s going to be a tough ride. The why helps us spot clients who ‘just don’t get it’ and gives us the confidence to make business choices based on it. Any organization can explain what it does; some can explain how they do it, but very few can clearly articulate why. This is the reason brand goals or ‘the why’ are a core part of our branding workshops.

The happiness advantage

The seven principles that fuel success by Shawn Achor is all about positive psychology. With mental wellbeing, such a big topic, positivity in the workplace deserves to be talked about more often. He reveals how happiness actually fuels success and performance, not the other way around. Why? Because when we are happier and more positive we are more engaged, creative, resilient to stress, and productive.

Good is the new cool

We loved this book so much we’ve already written a blog post for the Brighton Chamber about it.  While it definitely has a strong vibe of across the pond about it, we love the passion behind the contributing stories. 7 Key Principles set out by Afhdel Aziz and Bobby Jones are a great starting point for anyone who wants to be more meaningful and bold with their marketing in 2019.

Creativity Inc

Amy Wallace and Edwin Catmull paint a picture about the journey of Pixar studios, starting from a small business with a dream, growing to the powerhouse it is today. A story of resilience, dreaming and daring to be different.

Superengaged

Written by local Nikki Gatenby from Propellernet this is a great book, it is an honest, in-depth and upbeat look at the value of having values and the power of being people-focused, packed with tips and guidance for increasing your profits and improving your outcomes by putting people and purpose first.
